  • Amazon cancels plan for New York headquarters

    Amazon canceled plans to build a second headquarters (HQ2) in New York City after protests of local politicians and dwellers, who were unhappy about $3 billion tax incentives offered to the tech giant.

    “While polls show that 70 percent of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City,” Amazon wrote in its blog.

    In November Amazon chose New York City and Northern Virginia as two locations for HQ2. In each, the company expected to create in each location 25,000 jobs.  After the decision to abandon New York, Amazon said it does not plan to reopen HQ2 search. However, the company wants to proceed as planned in Northern Virginia.

  • Atal launches new Poznań scheme

    Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed developer Atal has launched sales in the first phase of its Apartamenty Dmowskiego residential project in Poznań. On offer are a total of 294 apartments in four seven-story buildings, which are scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2021. The scheme is the sixth development of Atal in the city.   • Dom Development with luxury project in Wrocław

    Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed developer Dom Development has launched sales in its Apartamenty Księcia Witolda luxury residential project in downtown Wrocław. The scheme is being developed on the bank of the Oder river, and will comprise 128 apartments and ten commercial units. The development is scheduled to be completed in December 2020.   • JLL hires flexible office solutions manager

    Adam Lis has joined JLL as a flexible office solutions manager. The real estate services firm is thus strengthening its competence in so-called flex sector, which is now quickly gaining in significance in Poland.   • New tenant at Wrocław’s Nowy Targ offices

    Interior design company Tillberg Design of Sweden has leased almost 1,000 sqm of office space at the Nowy Targ building in downtown Wrocław, which is currently being developed by Skanska and is scheduled to be completed in August this year.   • Small format stores sales up 6.3% in January

    Sales in small format stores (up to 300 sqm) grew by .3 percent y/y and dropped by 10.9 percent m/m in January, the Polish Chamber of Commerce PIH said. The number of transactions decreased by 2 percent compared to January 2018.

  • Yareal selects contractor for Warsaw office scheme

    Developer Yareal has selected builder PORR as the general contractor of its LIXA office project in Warsaw and has launched construction work on the scheme. The development is located in the Wola district of the city and will comprise a total of 65,000 sqm of leasable space in three phases.
